A scarce first edition second state ( page 123 line 17 visitor corrected to sister) 39 plates and frontis of young Charles sitting in a chair all ilustrated by Phiz, plates are foxed as is always the case. Spine divided into five compartments with small geometric snakelike design impressed into the brown leather as is commonly found on Cork bindings (we therefore believe this is a contemporary Irish binding) , black title label and gilt, marbled boards and endpapers, neat signature of a former owner on ep 625pp. A small hole within the top compartment does not detract from this handsome binding.
