Egyptian Architecture as a Cultural Expression, by E Baldwin Smith

75.00

This copy has the book plate of Lorenzo S Winslow signed by him stating he was the architect at the White House June 1946. In 1948 Winslow built a balcony on the south portico for Harry Truman. This was hardly completed when he noticed the whole building gave signs of collapsing. The brick that Hoban had used to line the stone facade was being stressed to its limits. Winslow began a full renovation of the White House, which, as one inspector put it ” was standing up purely from habit”.Book has bumped & a little frayed corners, spine faded & pulled at top. Book is scarce
